Ok, this movie is done but i’m still not quite finished.\u00c2\u00a0 I’m not sure about bloggin’ either, this is my first one and i can’t decide what’s the proper captialization policy. is it more a paper, or more an e-mail?\u00c2\u00a0 Sometimes, I write like the blog is formal.\u00c2\u00a0 Other times, i write like i write to my friends.\u00c2\u00a0 haven’t decided.\u00c2\u00a0 bear with me for now, please.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00c2\u00a0Alright, to the film.\u00c2\u00a0 The best part had to be the part at the end with Jeff and Ed in Jeff’s room.\u00c2\u00a0 All of a sudden, there was acting!\u00c2\u00a0 Well, for Jeff at least.\u00c2\u00a0 He played the part so ridiculously well, his character suddenly came to life like some frankenkingkong.\u00c2\u00a0 Bendix’ face moved from and angry drunken lout to a mask from a Greek tragedy and back, glorious.\u00c2\u00a0 What a guy, Jeff.\u00c2\u00a0 Only in Jeff did we get to see some of Hammett’s Freudian, psychological themes coming out.\u00c2\u00a0 Sorry, sorry.\u00c2\u00a0 He is so obsessed with Ed, like someone else was saying, (I don’t know how to link yet, it was on the blog “The Woman Who Could Handle Them All”), Ed dominates everyone.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Jeff might just want\u00c2\u00a0as good a friend as Paul, might be jealous… or it might be something more primal.\u00c2\u00a0 His homoerotic and sadistic attraction to Ed makes him the only tormented character in the story.\u00c2\u00a0 Ed just uses him.\u00c2\u00a0 It’s hard when the story isn’t in the main characters.\u00c2\u00a0 I’d like to see Jeff the Goon <\/em>or something.\u00c2\u00a0 That said,\u00c2\u00a0I find that the\u00c2\u00a0homoerotic and sadistic are unfairly paired in many characters in literature and film.\u00c2\u00a0 Just those old morals still hanging around, but it is exhausting.\u00c2\u00a0 My friend is about to show up here in the ol’ Bushnell, so I’ll wrap this for now, and maybe add some technical observations later.\u00c2\u00a0 Another real question remains: Why is eveyone obsessed with Alan Ladd’s Ed?\u00c2\u00a0 He’s boring.\u00c2\u00a0 It would take a heck of an actor to do the part justice, someone with real charisma.\u00c2\u00a0 It doesn’t make sense that everyone is crazy about such a stonefaced, bland character.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Ok, this movie is done but i’m still not quite finished.\u00c2\u00a0 I’m not sure about bloggin’ either, this is my first one and i can’t decide what’s the proper captialization policy. is it more a paper, or more an e-mail?\u00c2\u00a0 … Continue reading
