{"id":13,"date":"2007-02-28T07:38:53","date_gmt":"2007-02-28T14:38:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/tyler\/2007\/02\/28\/in-my-end-is-my-beginning\/"},"modified":"2007-02-28T07:38:53","modified_gmt":"2007-02-28T14:38:53","slug":"in-my-end-is-my-beginning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/tyler\/2007\/02\/28\/in-my-end-is-my-beginning\/","title":{"rendered":"In my end is my beginning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ok so I&#8217;ve been thinking about beginnings in movies.\u00c2\u00a0 Not too much, but I have.\u00c2\u00a0 Here&#8217;s what I&#8217;ve thought about.<\/p>\n<p>The opening music changes everything.\u00c2\u00a0 A good score can even get people into the credits.\u00c2\u00a0 An example might be <em>The Good the Bad and the Ugly&#8221; <\/em>(thanks Craig).\u00c2\u00a0 In that film, we see monocolor stills from the movie, and cheesy animations of people getting blown up by cannons.\u00c2\u00a0 But the score is so intense, I thought it was awesome.\u00c2\u00a0 <em>Star Wars<\/em> is the same way.\u00c2\u00a0 Imagine the explication in <em>A New Hope <\/em>scrolling off into space to Beth playing harpsichord.\u00c2\u00a0 The beginning to <em>Star Wars<\/em> is especially interesting.\u00c2\u00a0 The old movies had that epic <em>in media res <\/em>opening, where the story starts in the middle and ends before the end.\u00c2\u00a0 I suppose <em>Return of the Jedi <\/em>gives us plenty of closure, even down to glowing Yoda.\u00c2\u00a0 But it was cool while it lasted.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0There&#8217;s a big difference between a movie that starts with a long credit reel and one that saves all the credits for the end.\u00c2\u00a0 Too much or too little opening credit can be disturbing. Usually, I like to settle in to my surroundings during a brief but informative opening credit sequence.\u00c2\u00a0 If I have to wait forever to see the movie, I&#8217;ll admit getting a little bit grumpy.\u00c2\u00a0 But when it starts right up, like they do sometimes with those pre-credit bits, I am almost always caught off guard.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0Gonna go finish getting ready to present today, see you all later<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ok so I&#8217;ve been thinking about beginnings in movies.\u00c2\u00a0 Not too much, but I have.\u00c2\u00a0 Here&#8217;s what I&#8217;ve thought about.
