<\/a>I confess I have never “blogged” before nor have I ever considered doing so.\u00c2\u00a0 I know I’m a greenie, but I figure that with everything I’ve learned to accomplish in my life (which in reality isn’t much) this should be cake.<\/p>\n

So here I go…The Glass Key.\u00c2\u00a0 I had never heard of the book or the movie before this class and whenever I tried to tell anybody what book I was reading they thoughtfully corrected me and said, “menagerie. You mean the glass menagerie”. Nope, I didn’t and they were wrong.\u00c2\u00a0 Alas,\u00c2\u00a0The Glass Key\u00c2\u00a0was a very interesting find.\u00c2\u00a0 I’m a nerd so I had read the book before we started class.\u00c2\u00a0 I am gla<\/a>d though because I believe it made me appreciate the book more than I would have otherwise. The\u00c2\u00a0book took some getting used to, but\u00c2\u00a0before I knew it I cared about\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0messed up lives of Ned, Janet, and Paul.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0I have a special place in my heart for “old” movies, and I especially love anything made in the 1940’s.\u00c2\u00a0 I’ve never met a 1940’s movie that I didn’t like and the Glass Key was no exception.\u00c2\u00a0 Granted, the book\u00c2\u00a0is far better, but\u00c2\u00a0I found it fascinating to see the changes that\u00c2\u00a0were needed to translate the book into a\u00c2\u00a01942 movie.\u00c2\u00a0 As I was reading the book I\u00c2\u00a0knew that there was no way the movie would have been able to display the same content as found in the book.\u00c2\u00a0 I did not know about the Hays Code, but I have seen enough “old” movies that I knew there would be no swearing or even the word pregnant (a state Opal was deemed not to be in the book).\u00c2\u00a0 Even with all the subtle meanings laced throughout the film, I wonder what film-makers of that day would think of our recent releases such as, “Knocked Up”.\u00c2\u00a0 I’m curious if they would be proud or shocked..<\/p>\n
