{"id":49,"date":"2007-04-18T15:20:29","date_gmt":"2007-04-18T20:20:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/2007\/04\/18\/is-art-superficial-because-you-dont-like-it\/"},"modified":"2007-04-18T15:20:29","modified_gmt":"2007-04-18T20:20:29","slug":"is-art-superficial-because-you-dont-like-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/2007\/04\/18\/is-art-superficial-because-you-dont-like-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Is Art Superficial Because You Don&#8217;t Like It?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I write this in response to the question Serena asked of me.\u00c2\u00a0 Namely, &#8220;Is art superficial if you don&#8217;t have an emotional response to it?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I say no.\u00c2\u00a0 One may not like a work of art or respond to it in a favorable manner.\u00c2\u00a0 But that does not mean it&#8217;s superficial.\u00c2\u00a0 Any time an artist creates, he\/she is giving up a little piece of his identity.\u00c2\u00a0 He&#8217;s telling you, &#8220;This is who I am.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 If you call his work superficial simply because you don&#8217;t have an emotional response to it is tantamount to denying his right to express himself and thus negating his existence.\u00c2\u00a0 For me, art is a means of expressing oneself and affirming a common humanity.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are other aspects to a work of art to\u00c2\u00a0admire or recognize.\u00c2\u00a0 One aspect is the talent it took to create it.\u00c2\u00a0 By that I mean brush strokes, the use of color, focus, attention to details,\u00c2\u00a0the choice of medium, etc&#8230; .\u00c2\u00a0 If you&#8217;ve ever watched an artist paint, draw or create anything, you know what I mean.\u00c2\u00a0 They make it look so effortless.\u00c2\u00a0 Back to my mom, she\u00c2\u00a0can sit down with a crayon and a piece of kid&#8217;s construction paper and make images appear.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s truly magic.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m always amazed at the way things seem to spring to life.\u00c2\u00a0 However, she is always tinkering with it.\u00c2\u00a0 She adds this or that to it and makes her creation even lovelier.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m usually happy with her initial creation but she always says she could make it better.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I love art and would love to be an artist myself.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Believe me I have tried and the results are always diasterous.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0I respect artists and the process they go through in creating their art.\u00c2\u00a0 It is truly a\u00c2\u00a0gift.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe they know this and want to share it with the world.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe they just have a need to share themselves.\u00c2\u00a0 Whatever their motivation is sharing their creations, I&#8217;m glad they do.\u00c2\u00a0 Without art, the world would be dull and lifeless.\u00c2\u00a0 What is important to me is that they keep sharing it.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s okay not to like everything.\u00c2\u00a0 However for me it is important to respect the artistic process.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I write this in response to the question Serena asked of me.\u00c2\u00a0 Namely, &#8220;Is art superficial if you don&#8217;t have an emotional response to it?&#8221; I say no.\u00c2\u00a0 One may not like a work of art or respond to it in a favorable manner.\u00c2\u00a0 But that does not mean it&#8217;s superficial.\u00c2\u00a0 Any time an artist [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":42,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-49","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/49","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/42"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=49"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/49\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=49"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=49"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=49"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
