{"id":15,"date":"2007-02-14T09:55:15","date_gmt":"2007-02-14T14:55:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/2007\/02\/14\/heartbeat-metaphor\/"},"modified":"2007-02-14T09:55:15","modified_gmt":"2007-02-14T14:55:15","slug":"heartbeat-metaphor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/2007\/02\/14\/heartbeat-metaphor\/","title":{"rendered":"Heartbeat Metaphor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been thinking about the metaphor of cuts in a movie being metaphoric extensions of the human heartbeat.\u00c2\u00a0 It made me think about all kinds of things.\u00c2\u00a0 For example, what would a heart murmur look like in a scene?\u00c2\u00a0 My understanding of a heart murmur is that it is an extra sound that is not supposed to be there.\u00c2\u00a0 They&#8217;re graded on a scale of 1-6, with 1 requiring no intervention or medicine.\u00c2\u00a0 Anything that&#8217;s rated 4 or higher requires some kind of pharmaceutical.\u00c2\u00a0 I know cause my poor kitty had a grade 4 heart murmur as well as a myriad of other cardiac issues.\u00c2\u00a0 In any event, would it be entirely too ridiculous to apply this same line of thought to movies?\u00c2\u00a0 I would like to watch the movie again in hopes of supporting my theory.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As an aside, I now feel that I have to pay attention to things like cuts, heartbeats, shot lenghts and lighting when watching a film.\u00c2\u00a0 Before, I would have just watched a movie to be entertained.\u00c2\u00a0 Yes, I&#8217;m complaining a little bit.\u00c2\u00a0 Not in a bad way though.\u00c2\u00a0 But now I have to take a closer look.\u00c2\u00a0 I guess that&#8217;s a good thing.\u00c2\u00a0 I have a question for the class; Does anyone feel overwhelmed when watching a movie?
