{"id":10,"date":"2007-02-05T15:32:55","date_gmt":"2007-02-05T20:32:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/2007\/02\/05\/millers-crossing-2-5-07\/"},"modified":"2007-02-05T15:32:55","modified_gmt":"2007-02-05T20:32:55","slug":"millers-crossing-2-5-07","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/2007\/02\/05\/millers-crossing-2-5-07\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Miller&#8217;s Crossing&#8221; 2-5-07"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have to say that so far, I am enjoying this movie more than the others.\u00c2\u00a0 The dialogue seems easier to follow than in &#8220;Key,&#8221; and there&#8217;s no subtitles!\u00c2\u00a0 Having to focus so much attention on these things draws my attention away from the film itself.\u00c2\u00a0 It just seems like there&#8217;s so much to keep track of when watching a movie.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0At the beginning of class, Dr. Campbell told us to pay attention to the intro because it was basically the whole film right there.\u00c2\u00a0 I thought he said to pay attention to the sounds and so I want to talk about my observations therein.\u00c2\u00a0 I noticed that at the very beginning, the ice cubes get dropped into the glass and make quite a loud tinkling sound.\u00c2\u00a0 After the cubes are dropped in the glass, they seemed to swirl and rotate like the hat did in the beginning.\u00c2\u00a0 The ice cubes were trapped in the glass, but the hat was free to blow about.\u00c2\u00a0 Not sure what this means.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0I also noticed that covering one&#8217;s head is important in this film.\u00c2\u00a0 Right off the bat, Tommy&#8217;s hat is seen blowing around with the leaves.\u00c2\u00a0 Tommy appears to go to a great deal of trouble to get his hat back.\u00c2\u00a0 The next scene in which covering the head is important is the one in which the politician&#8217;s aide is found dead in the alley.\u00c2\u00a0 The little boy seems afraid of him until he can muster the courage to remove his toupee.\u00c2\u00a0 Once he removes it, he goes on his way and seems not to be afraid anymore.\u00c2\u00a0 The hat and the toupee act as walls or masks that the characters depend on for staying hidden.\u00c2\u00a0 Interestingly enough, when Kasper loses his temper with the &#8220;Irish Boss,&#8221; his hat comes off;leaving him vulnerable.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Finally, I noticed that the rooms are generally dark except for a few very noticeable lights.\u00c2\u00a0 In the beginning, there were green, red and white lights illuminating the &#8220;Irish Boss&#8217;s&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0face.\u00c2\u00a0 Here again, there seems to be a lot of attention paid to illuminating people.\u00c2\u00a0 I wonder if this binary of hiding and illumination will play out in the rest of the movie.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have to say that so far, I am enjoying this movie more than the others.\u00c2\u00a0 The dialogue seems easier to follow than in &#8220;Key,&#8221; and there&#8217;s no subtitles!\u00c2\u00a0 Having to focus so much attention on these things draws my attention away from the film itself.\u00c2\u00a0 It just seems like there&#8217;s so much to keep [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":42,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-10","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/42"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=10"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=10"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=10"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/carmenc\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=10"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
