{"id":19,"date":"2007-07-27T09:59:33","date_gmt":"2007-07-27T15:59:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/ashley\/2007\/07\/27\/19\/"},"modified":"2007-07-27T10:02:16","modified_gmt":"2007-07-27T16:02:16","slug":"19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.elsweb.org\/ashley\/2007\/07\/27\/19\/","title":{"rendered":"Final Project!!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><strong>I just wanted to say that I think everyone did an awesome job on their presentations last night!\u00c2\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Here is my project (the word document) :<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Facebook<\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is Facebook?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Facebook is a social networking website<\/p>\n<p>It is described as a type of virtual yearbook<\/p>\n<p>-The name of the site refers to the paper facebooks depicting members of the campus community that colleges and preparatory schools give to incoming students, faculty, and staff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Creation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Created by Harvard students Mark Zuckerburg and Chris Hughes<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8230;Timeline&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2004<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Feb. 4 ~ Facebook was launched<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; at first only available to Harvard students<\/p>\n<p>-within 2 weeks half the student body joined; within one month, 2\/3 of the<\/p>\n<p>students were members.<\/p>\n<p>April ~ expanded to other Boston area schools and all Ivy-League schools<\/p>\n<p>Many individual universities were added in rapid succession by the end of the year<\/p>\n<p>December ~ over 1 million users<\/p>\n<p><strong>2005<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>September ~ opened to high school students<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>October ~ expanded to most colleges in the US, Canada, and UK; also, the entire ITESM network in Mexico, University of Puerto   Rico, &amp; the University of Virgin   Islands<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fall ~ over 5 million active users<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>December ~ universities in New Zealand &amp; Australia were added -&gt; 11,000,000 users worldwide<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2006<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>June ~ opened to work networks<\/p>\n<p>August ~ added universities in Germany &amp; high schools in Isreal<\/p>\n<p>September ~ &#8220;open registration&#8221; &#8211; anyone with a valid email address could join a regular network<\/p>\n<p><strong>2007<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>May ~ added a &#8220;Classifieds&#8221; feature (Facebook Marketplace)<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>May~ Facebook launched &#8220;The Platform&#8221; &#8211; a system enabling 3<sup>rd<\/sup> party companies to integrate their services inside facebook user pages.  At this time, 70 companies had already set up applications.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Applications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What is an application? &#8211; a program or group of programs designed for end-users (person who actually uses the product).<\/p>\n<p>No longer will Facebook consider itself merely another social network.
