I think you are very right though, just because we use technology doesn't necessarily mean we are using it in any revolutionary way.
You are also right that there is a huge online community waiting to get involved and we are at a very exciting place in history. I think when the unheard voices are getting their say through these new mediums of communication then we will have done something truly revolutionary. 
But there is a fear of what putting power in the hands of the masses could do though. The US is actually a constitutional republic, we elect people to represent us, we are not a direct democracy. 
So what does it mean if the floor is going to be open to everyone?</description>
